Brave Light — Amanda Gorman
Some people remind us just how powerful words can be.
Brave Light is my colorful tribute to poet and changemaker Amanda Gorman — a young woman whose voice, courage, and words have inspired millions.
When I watched Amanda deliver The Hill We Climb, I was struck not only by what she said, but by the strength, hope, and confidence she carried with her. She reminded us that even during difficult and divided times, we can choose to look toward possibility, use our voices, and become part of the change we hope to see.
I wanted this painting to capture that feeling.
Through bold color, expressive brushwork, and words woven into the artwork, I wanted Amanda to feel almost illuminated — a reminder that light isn't only something we search for. It can also be something we create and carry into the world.
Throughout the artwork, I incorporated some of Amanda Gorman’s powerful words and messages about courage, light, hope, and creating change. One line that especially captures the spirit behind this piece is:
“There is always light.”
Those words became part of the inspiration for the title Brave Light.
As an artist and nurse, I am continually inspired by people who use their gifts to encourage, heal, advocate, and make others feel that a better future is possible. Amanda’s gift is her voice, and her words remind us that our own voices matter too.
Brave Light is about courage, hope, and finding the strength to use your own voice — even when the world feels uncertain.It is about finding your voice, stepping into your own light, and remembering that even one person can inspire change.
