Save the Sloths
A mother’s love is universal—even high in the trees of Costa Rica.
This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by a friend while in Costa Rica of a mother sloth with her baby nestled close to her. I loved the image immediately—the closeness between them, the peaceful expression, and that beautiful little glimpse into their life in the wild.
What makes this piece even more special to me is that my kids helped me paint it. Knowing that we worked on this mother and baby together feels especially fitting for a painting that celebrates the bond between parent and child.
I brought the scene to life in my colorful, vibrant style, surrounding the sloths with rich tropical colors and the feeling of the Costa Rican rainforest.
Sloths may move slowly, but their survival depends on something happening much faster: protecting the forests they call home. Habitat loss and human impact continue to threaten wildlife throughout Central and South America, and paintings like this are my way of celebrating these incredible animals while encouraging people to care about their future.
